Commentary
Paul is writing a letter to the Romans. This chapter makes clear some of the particulars of the law. God's Law does not go before a board for modification or amending. God's Law is from everlasting to everlasting. A man who is led by the Spirit of God is a son of God. Family do not need to follow after the letter of the law. Following the Spirit of God will automatically align us with His perfect will, therefore the law will not apply to me, or other Spirit filled Christians. Those who live the the law are justified by the law, and are are subject to the law.
It is NOT okay to sin. However, should you find sin in your life, or just a single, isolated "canker worm", be assured the Lord is with you. Where sin abounds, grace much more greatly abounds. This don't mean its okay to go on ahead and sin, so that grace can be poured out. This means to say, "fear not". God will convict you. He will tug at your heart with a sense of remorse, but not so much so that it feels like the end of the world. What God wants to do is encourage you, not make you feel sorry and mope around all day. He wants to inspire you anew to charge forward in His will.
In this era, as the Bible unfolds, it is important to know that the different races, cultures, subcultures, or whatever... they had established a sort of "ranking" system. Just at face value, and without a scholarly degree... its clear that the Jews came before the Gentiles. Paul is making it clear that God wants us to know that this superficial flesh ranking system is NOT His way. It is not a condition of the flesh, or by which race you were born. God wants us to know that with a simple decision to serve and obey Him, you will immediately establish "Jew Status". It is of the heart, not of the flesh. It is a spiritual matter, not a material one.
When God forgives us of a sin or of sin in our lives, He does not always deliver us from the consequences. Sometimes it is very important to pay the consequence for our actions, especially when its ordered by God. There is a matter of restitution or making amends that must take place. What the enemy steals, he must return to us seven fold. Don't be like the enemy. We are the lender, not the borrower. We will owe no man, and certainly we will not owe the enemy.
In all that you do, in all that you walk, when you find sin... remember that what you see is almost ALWAYS the results of earlier sins or issues, and should be addressed as you discover them. This is "searching yourself daily". The reason that this is so very important is because the Lord wants to show you how to restore your mind to total sanity. As you spend time in the Word, as we are now, you will find issues that must be faced and made powerless. Give it to Jesus and it will be no more. Follow it back to its origin and eliminate the residual effects and damage. God is willing and able to restore you to WHOLE.
