Commentary
It is with much excitement that I receive this chapter. Whether my flesh follows after the law or that of the Spirit, it is not a condition of the flesh. It is a condition of the Spirit. If I had not conformed to the law of circumcision, and if my heart is still longing after my Father, God, who is Jesus Christ, I will still be of the circumcised people. If my flesh be born of the Romans, Gentiles or the Jews... if I long for the righteousness of God, I am of the faith. "The Jew first, then the Gentile"... I count and am counted, as a Jew, as the chosen people.
You see, God does NOT follow after the law of man. In fact, our law is "founded" on the law of God. We had amended the law so many times now, there is a law for every law, that cancels a law. This causes the law of the land to cancel itself out. God's law is whole, complete, and perfect... however God does not desire that we follow the law, because we will be bound by the law. Instead, God wants us to follow after the Spirit. To be led by the Spirit of God makes me a son of God... family, not servant. Servants don't know what the master is doing, while a son knows his Father's plan, and His will. There is an intimate connection between Father and son. We are "joint heirs" with Jesus himself! We have all the power of heaven and of earth. The power of life and death is right here on the tip of our tongue. Be faithful with this, and God will grant you ruler-ship of a great thing (s).
Again, this is not a flesh thing... it's a condition of the heart. We can speak things that are not, as if they were. We can do as God had done in the beginning... we can speak things into existence. Holy God, please limit this one, at least until after I get a strong bridle on my tongue. If I can control my tongue, I have accomplished a great thing. To do this, I must fill my mind and my heart with Your Word, oh Lord. For out of the abundance of my heart, my mouth will speak. If all I have to do is stay safely in Your Word, to fill my heart with Your Word, then I know I will speak light and life to a dark and dying world.
Paul used the circumcision law as an example in this chapter, to relay to us the message... follow the Spirit of God with your heart, and you will rise above the law, making it of no consequence to you, and automatically fulfill the law, by already following the Maker of the Law (the Holy Spirit). Further, God through Paul, made it clear that our spoken word will bring about that which isn't as though it were. This is a very powerful Kingdom Key. We should use this one often so that we become familiar with it, to use it effortlessly, to the extent that we need only be conscience and aware that we speak only life and light. Be Prophetic!
