2 Samuel 22

David gives thanks to God, through worship and song. From his youth, David had always worshiped God, in the city and in the field. This is what the Lord wants from us, praise and worship resulting from gratitude and contentment. Contentment with Godliness is great gain! By now we should have a clear understanding what "great gain" can mean in our lives, from all that David had experienced so far. We should be excited that God will do for us what He had done for David, in that He will make our name great among the nations.

Only one chapter earlier, David was still facing adversity from within his own ranks and also from the heathen nations. David does recognize God's hand in everything, and that it is He who has made David who he is. We can model our lives after such an example. We remember that David was not perfect in times past, but that he was forgiven when he truly repented. David did not dwell on his shortcomings, but instead he moved onward, renewing his strength through the Lord. This way works. This is the Lord's way. We need not feel condemned. We need only to accept, as mature people, the responsibilities of our decisions and grow with them. We need always to recognize God in our lives and to acknowledge Him.

Everything will at first seem too big for you. It is not too big for God. He will help you grow into it. Everything you put forth your hand to, for His sake, will prosper. Be encouraged. The Lord is with you!
