2 Samuel 21

David is settling more now, into his role as king. It's interesting that the Lord had caused a famine in the land because of the covenant was broken between the Israelites and the Gibeonites. Saul had broken the covenant by seeking to destroy them, in his zeal. Nations make covenants between each other today, and break them, but either the consequence goes unnoticed, or God doesn't do the way He had in the past. It is my learned opinion that God had not changed in this regard. I believe the difference is that our country is not at all like the Israelites. I mean to speak very boldly here, and I want it known that this is my opinion.

I believe that God worked so closely with the Israelites because they were His chosen People. God promised Abraham that his seed would be like the stars in the sky, or the sand on the sea shore. These are the direct descendants of Abraham. We are the direct descendants of Abraham also. Why don't we notice God moving in our lives as significantly as He had in David's day? I believe it is because we have drifted so far from Him, as a nation, that when He chastises us, it is explained away as some kind of scientific occurrence. We founded this country on "in God we trust" and we maintain now that we have freedom of religion... freedom for ALL religions, even false gods! It is true that this country does support the belief system of any and all gods, and clearly outlaws any public or political acknowledgment of the One True God, specifically Jesus.

I believe that because of this, God interacts with our lives on a more personal level, instead of as a nation. God is not mocked. God will not let His good be evil spoken of. God will have only that which will bring the most glory to Him. If all of us Christians would bold together more thoroughly and stand together in love, God will move mightily among us and lead us to His throne.  We can have a relationship with God like the Israelites had. We are scattered to all four corners of the earth now, but God can bring us together in unity. We must want this. We should focus on our similarities instead of our differences. This should be our standard on a personal level as well as on a corporate level. We should seek God to lead us. We should be examples of Him.
