Deuteronomy 20

It is certain that God will not tolerate the wicked ways of the heathen nations. Woe to the man who would pick up the practices of idolatry and provoke the Lord to anger. The world will look to these People to see that God is a great God, and not that we could go on to do whatsoever we want to, even the worship of a god that did not for the People as the Almighty God has done.

What god would permit worship of another? What god is more than wood, or stone, or brass, except for the One True God, the maker of all that exists? How could anyone accept a practice that is determined abominable by the God that has brought the People through so much, to prove that He is real, and to show His mighty hand in all things?

It is not at all uncommon to see a man go against his very morale to gain the acceptance of a beautiful woman. In fact, there is not much a man will not do to gain favor with such a woman. Man has within him a weakness for women, to do altogether wickedness that he might gain here acceptance. Often times this man will be content with only the approval of the woman, even if he cannot, or has no intentions of gaining her love.

Man has completely destroyed priceless worth for the favor of the woman. This is the primary evil that dwells among us today, but what about back then? Did not the nations make every kind of effort to destroy the Israelites by force, to be utterly destroyed by the hand of God? It was only when the People did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord that the enemy nations ever prevailed. It is the only strategy the enemy has against us, to entice us, to draw us away from the protection of God.

God will bring us through to victory in every situation in our lives if we will only please Him by doing that which is right in His eyes. To do this, a person must refrain from the sins that are outlined in God's training course; in this case, the Wilderness Wanderings. God would have His people to be examples to all other nations that He is the One True God, and that nothing is too much for Him, if only the person will give his heart and his will over to the care of God that created him.
