Deuteronomy 1

Deuteronomy begins with an overview of the book of Numbers. I did not offer an overview of the book of Numbers because it was done already by Moses, himself. I may write something in my own words later, but for now I will leave this section as it is, with a few links to research sites that I have found as I done my own study.

This is where the Israelites are at in their journey for the Promise Land. This is to be regarded as a timeless example that God will give us something of extreme value, but for us to receive it, we much go after it to possess it. We must be shaped to adapt to that which we pursue. Most importantly, we must be a good example of what God expects in His People. As His fame is spread abroad, those who hear of the glorious works of the LORD will start to look at the people who God had blessed. That which is seen in the People of God will then be sought after by others as an effort to be blessed by God as well. Many people from other tribes and nations have joined with the People, to become one among then to be blessed as being one of the People of God.

Our example is a message to onlookers that says, “this is the behavior and lifestyle of one who is found in favor with God, and therefore we are blessed by Him”. Not only will this message be that which the onlooker does seek, but is also the standard that we set before the seeker of said blessings in life.

Today we are among a generation that wants the blessings but not the reproof. We don’t want to change who we are, but we do want the reward that is set aside only for those who will live according to God’s standards. There is no shorter way. The direct route is being blocked by the same cloud by day, and fire by night that does direct the path to the Land of Promise. We can not get to any desired destination that God blesses in our own accord. We must follow the way of the Provider. As it was in the very beginning, it is today, and will be forever… if we want God’s blessing, we must follow God’s direction. All other ways are wanderings. All ways, no matter how we go about it, will be a developing of the people; a “boot camp” for reform.

Remember, we were slaves, and we know no other way of life… yet. God will teach us how we are to life while He leads us to our very own Promised Land.
