Deuteronomy 14

Of all the things that God has appointed as clean and unclean as food for the People, verse 21 gets my attention the most. If something dies on its own, the Holy people shall not eat it. However, the Holy people can give it or sell it to anyone that is not part of them. Any stranger can receive it for food, any neighboring nation or traveler can also receive it for food. This is because the Chosen Ones of God are Holy and set apart from the rest of the world, and live by higher standards.

Verses 22 through 29 tell us about the tithe that God requires of His Chosen People, that are set apart as Holy. There are exceptions and variants of how a person can honor his part in this requirement, that are meant to accommodate the persons specific limitations. God went on to say that the liberty for such accommodations extend to “whatsoever the soul lusts after…” meaning that God will, for this specific occasion, set no boundaries for their comfort or enjoyment.

In addition to Gods allowance to liberty for the Peoples’ choices and accommodations, God has issued a bonus for them who invite the stranger and the Levite, and the fatherless, and the widow, which are within thy gates to eat and be satisfied; that the LORD thy God may bless they in ALL the work of thine hand which thou doest.
