Christian 12 Steps
Step Eleven: Making Contact 1 of 2
By G. Neil Armstrong
Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
1) Do you think God will reveal to you the plan He has for your life?
I think God has bee constantly revealing His plan for my life all throughout my life. I also believe He has always been carrying it out. I believe He has always had a hand in my coming and my going. I believe He has made my rough places plain and the crooked way straight.
In my life I have discovered a thing very much like the Serenity Prayer. I found that all things are that which I either let happen or that which I make happen. God helps me to know which is which. It is the subtle, very minor detail that makes the biggest difference in the result of a thing.
How do I know which is which? What SHOULD I make happen and what should I LET happen? What is God’s will in this matter? This is no small matter – ever. I do know that as a Christian, I must effort to be like Christ. This means that I must seed and save that which is lost. It means that what I do must be unto life and that more abundantly.
Many times, too many to accurately count, I have done exactly opposite this. My actions have resulted in loss, destruction, and death. I have left a trail, a vast wasteland of desolation in my foot prints. It’s not difficult to identify mine in the well-trodden path. Mine are the prints with pooled and decaying blood filled in them. The blood of innocent victims dripping from my own hands.
It’s not how it ought to be. Often I’ve learned God’s plan and His will by experiencing what is NOT His plan and His will for me. He doesn’t want ANYONE to die or decay. He wants all of us to repent. He wants me to follow His lead, even when I don’t want to.
He knows the great lengths I’ve gone to for a wicked thing. He has shown me how for greater I can be and do for Him, on eagles’ wings. This gives me unyielding power to fly directly into the storm, or simply glide above it where it is calm and glorious. Each is important and I can do it all.
Matthew 25 tells me what God wants form me and for me. Help others. First and most important, He wants me to fear Him and keep His commandments as is written in Ecclesiastes 12.
