1 Kings 22

     What Then Shall I do?

Have you ever been in a situation that you were unsure of? Have you sought the will of the Lord in this matter? In the search for God's will, sometimes we have conflicting direction concerning God's will and what way we should go. This is no small matter, even if the situation weren't so grave as this. You truly sought the Lord in the matter, and alas, you still don't know His true will.

This thing happens because we haven't yet reached a place in our relationship with God that we would, without error, recognize His will or His way. Maybe it because of the tossing to and fro, as we learn from various sources in our growing up. Ephesians 4 addresses this kind of situation. When the potential consequence is as severe as in this chapter, it would seem pertinent that we get it right, the first time. Sometimes it seems that our life depends on the truth... the first time.

We need to take our "walk" seriously... now. We need to trust in God and learn to follow His instruction. We need to understand and recognize His will as we grow in our relationship with Him. This is one reason why it is important to seek Him always, in all that we do... all of the time. It is not good to seek God only when we are in a serious situation, because every minute of our lives are important and serious. It always leads to and compliments other situations. It's a process. It's also a result, rather than a goal. King David had a close relationship with God, and at times, still erred in his walk. The difference is that David had a repentant heart, and he always confessed his sin to God.

Even when we confess to God and are truly repentant, we must accept the consequences. We are forgiven, yet we are not exempt from His perfect justice. When our heart is right, the consequence will bring us closer to God, and He will do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. He will sustain us and protect us from the finality of death. 1 John 1:9 gives us this hope. We are doomed to destruction. Sin brings death.

Seek God in all ways. He will direct you. You will be at peace with Him, and He will keep you. Psalm 91 assures us of this. He will never leave us, now will He forsake us.
