1 Kings 8
Solomon Dedicates the Temple
This chapter details the dedication ceremony for the temple unto the Lord. The People brought the Ark of the Covenant to the temple to rest there, in it's proper location. This is a dedication that lasted 2 weeks and inspires hope in the hearts of the People that God is with them, and that His mercy endures forever, both for His chosen People and for the stranger.
On a scale, this is the entire purpose of all that we do for God... so that the whole earth may know Him. God loves us without boundaries. With this love, He wants us to maintain a commitment to keep Him as the single, most important, the ONLY reason for our lives. Also, with this love that never ceases, He will not withdraw His justice. This means, while He is ever merciful, He will not let our wrongs go unattended. We already know what havoc is wreaked when an unrighteousness is permitted to run its course.
This is why God gave us the hope of 1 John 1:9, that He will not only forgive our sins when we make confession, but that He will also clean us up. Clean the results of unattended sin. Sin that has produces destructive character flaws and shortcomings. The Ark of the Covenant is placed in the temple to remind us continually that God is with us, both to forgive and to correct us. We are to demonstrate His sovereignty in our lifestyle and our demeanor. Let us walk in His way. Let us dedicate ourselves, the true temple of God, the way that Solomon did in this chapter.
