Commentary
1 Kings 4
Solomon's reign was strong. His family grew and peace was all around. He had dominion over the whole Land of Promise. The land that God promised to Abraham was finally established and complete. There were still heathen nations here and there, dwelling on the land, Canaan, but every one of them were under subjection of Solomon's authority. Countries that were not included in the Promised Land still came to receive Solomon's wisdom.
Solomon's wisdom wasn't just a novelty, or "tourist attraction". There was real value to Godly wisdom, as there is today. As we grow in wisdom, we will adopt more responsibility. As we grow in responsibility, we increase in authority. This is the "formula" that makes up the scripture, "
| Mat 25:21 | His lord said unto him, Well done, [thou] good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. |
We grow, but not for naught. We become more "Christ-like", but not for no reason at all. The primary objective is to increase the kingdom of God with a quality of the utmost. We have life, and that more abundantly. God is all about "great gain" and prosperity. Every time He blesses someone significantly, one of the by-products of that blessing is prosperity, or riches. This includes, but is not limited to monetary gain. Our lives become richer and fuller.
The beginning stages of this growth can sometimes seem overwhelming. Remember that God will not give you more than you are able to bear. Be encouraged knowing that God has confidence that you can handle all the things He has given you. Be wise like Solomon. Use every available resource and utilize them to their fullest. The blessings of the Lord are without limit. Let's put our lives into a position to receive them.
