Commentary
2 Samuel 17
Even as far back as the day of Job there were people of ill report. Some people see only the negative side of a thing. When our heart is set upon things of God, we can see the positive side of everything. we can focus our attention on the solution, rather than the problem. The trouble is, often times we have an enemy spy in our camp. This source is not easily identified, and very little can be done to prevent it. However, if we trust in the Lord with all of our heart, lean not to our own understanding, but in all of our ways acknowledge Him, He will direct our path. All things will work together for good. We will know victory. Everyone who watches from afar will see the mighty hand of God and that His People will not be utterly consumed, no matter the circumstances.
In almost all cases, there will be an ill report go out about our coming and our going. This thing ought to not dismay us. When our heart is right, have confidence that the Lord will make straight this crookedness. The worse it looks, the better it will be when all is well, for the Lord has brought us through, even against seemingly impossible odds. God can prosper us even in our mistakes.
