2 Samuel 14

I wonder why Joab felt that it was necessary to orchestrate such an elaborate scheme to get his point across. Is David so unreachable, so un-impressionable sometimes that someone would need to reach him by such crafty invention? No matter, it was effective, and David took heed. Now David and Absalom can address the situation of murder. Absalom does not feel animosity, nor does he regret what he had done. He felt it necessary to give justice for his sister. He felt this thing ought to not go unpunished. After two years, and no justice, Absalom found occasion to exact revenge, in the name of justice. I have not decided for myself yet, if this is altogether wrong. Surely Absalom gave fair time for the crime to be judged. When he had Amnon killed, he might have perceived that he should keep his distance from his father, until he was able to present his case, and without any hasty or rash repercussions.

It was Joab's plan to bring about this meeting, and to make clear Absalom's case, at least enough so that David would not act without understanding. We can learn from this. We don't need to go to such great lengths, but if we think it through, and ask God to lead us, we can address our issues in a positive way, to bring about the very best resolution. God's hand is in this when we ask Him to lead us. He will lead us into all truth. He will instill in us a new way, a way that can prevent animosity and strife. He will transform us, renew us, make us perfect/complete.
