Commentary
After David had spent some time with the Philistines he had formed a bond with them that went deep enough for him to want to fight with them against their enemies, apparently even if the enemy is, or was allied with David once before. The Philistines did see a potential conflict of interest in this matter and declined the aid of David and his men. They did not want David to ally himself once again against them as he once was, the time when he slew Goliath. They told David to depart at first light. It is important to mention here that David did desire to aid his new allies, the Philistines in battle. He was not permitted to do so. We will see how God plays His hand in all of this, even though it shows no signs at this moment.
There are situations in our lives that we fumble through, not knowing how God is working “in the background” to bring about a favorable outcome. These are times when we ought to not lean on our own understanding, but that we need to acknowledge Him. He will direct us in the way that we ought to go. He will be glorified in His mighty works. He will take an impossible predicament and bring about phenomena so Supernatural that even scientists cannot explain away with theory.
In later chapters we will see Gods mighty works and how what is not becomes what we thought could not be. We couldn’t even plan the events and outcomes that God manifests in our lives when we trust Him fully.
