Commentary
Deuteronomy 16
Again, God tells Moses to remind the
People this that is written in chapter 16. Sometimes God will tell the
People something new to do to to not do. These new instructions are
provided because of new situations that the People are in or will be in
soon. God wants to prepare the People for an upright and Godly
lifestyle, and not just any ol' response or reaction to the
circumstances will do; only the way that God instructs the People will
do. The People could not possibly have the
foresight to handle a situation that would bring glory to God and
blessing to the camp. All that is before them is new. Sure, nations have
engaged in warfare and overtaken land many times before, so what makes
this different? The land that is before the People, the
land that God promised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is a vast land for a
settlement of a size far greater than the current People. The People are
few and unskilled in battle compared to the opposing nations that
inhabit Canaan. Only the hand of God can accomplish that which these
People do partake of, all of the seemingly impossible and supernatural
phenomena. Even those of the larger nations could not bring forth such
landslide victory for that God's chosen People have had the opportunity
to indulge in. This is a period of time when God is
establishing His name upon the whole earth. He will must needs perform
again and even still that which becomes of His Almighty Hand. He will
bless whom He will bless and He will curse whom He will curse. I seek
for an opportunity for God to make known His name in my life. To do
this, I must remember always that I alone can do no good thing to bring
honor to the name of God, but that I can do that which I think is Gods
will. I will pick up again that which I have dropped. I will continue in
that which I have abandoned. I will announce the name of God in my
life, so that everyone will know that I live for God. Then I will effort
to be a good example of a life lived for God. I will call upon Him in
my time of need. I will rejoice in all my ways. God will establish His
name in me, to bless me beyond human explanation. This is my hope of
salvation. This I do in Jesus' name. Monday, January
