 Step 7: Humility

By G. Neil Armstrong

The spiritual focus of Step 7 is humility, asking God to do something that cannot be done by self-will or mere determination.

Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift you up (James 4:10).

I confess my sin to You, O Lord. If I think I need or even want something so immediate, I have often, so very often taken by force, against all opposition, even that which I felt was my rightful deed. I submit my will to You, now. I take to myself contentment. I seek for myself Your kingdom and Your righteousness. I seek Godliness.

I acknowledge that if I obtain a form of Godliness that is acceptable and pleasing in Thy sight, then in that alone will I be content. Nothing less will matter. I take this to myself as a decision, a choice; I accept this only as my portion. The expected result of great gain will be esteemed as that which is not mine to do with what I will, but that this is Your substance and that You trust me to distribute it with wisdom to whom it is appointed. I am Your servant, O Lord. I accept my station as such.

I admit that I have forced my will upon others to establish results that are in my favor. This I recognize as selfish manipulation and strong-arm bullying. I do earnestly repent now. If my desire is not fulfilled, I will accept it – come what may. This is my conscience commitment. Shine now upon my confession, in Jesus’ name, amen.
