Fruit of the Forbidden
By G. Neil Armstrong
As I learn from the Word
All the things I need to know
A certain scripture stuck on me
With a special kind of glow
It read, “Know them by the fruit that they bear”
And so if they’re of evil, I’ll get out of there
At first I wasn’t sure
Exactly what it meant
But it explained a scripture previously sent
Saying, “test the spirits
If they’re evil or good”
If they’re evil I’ll flee
At least I know I should
As time went on
I failed a lot of tests
So I be thinking pretty hard
As I lay down to rest
Saying, “God how come I never seem to win?
When a trial comes along
It almost always ends in sin!”
The recently, suddenly
The Lord said to me,
“my child, remember when
I taught you to flee?
Well, running for so long
Will surely wear you out,
You could stumble and fall
And begin to doubt.
“Remember yesterday at work
When you were tired and mad?
Not once did you admit
It’s from the party you had
Liking the ladies
And how they looked
You thought, ‘just give them a party
And they’ll be hooked’
“The fruit of the forbidden in that situation
Were the ladies, they made you want a vacation
From what is written,
You were smitten
You were down with the ladies
By the Fruit of the Forbidden”
Chorus:
Fruit of the Forbidden (x4)
“My child, here’s the truth
And to you I’ll say it
When you learn of my Word
Don’t you sway it
When I speak to your heart
You can know I’m not kidding
And my child, stay away
From the Fruit of the Forbidden”
Chorus:
Fruit of the Forbidden (x4)
