Commentary
by G. Neil Armstrong
Today's study moves me deeply. It is not expedient for me to express the details of my conviction in this matter, only that it has a major impact on my soul. It my hope of all hope that the conviction that I am experiencing will be experienced by all who receive this passage directly, indirectly, or even in a small way exposed to it. When this does reach every heart it was intended to reach, the natural response will likely be to justify, analyize and feel falsely confident that we are not among those who should improve. I say with boldness that every single one of us are in a position that can be improved upon.
Everything recorded in the Bible is relevent in our salvation. Some things are specific for a time and/or place, but we grow from every chapter and every verse. It is my goal to understand what is written, how it relates to my Christian walk, and how to apply the principle to my life. This is what I hope every recipient will aim to do.
In todays' times we have preachers and pastors who will lean on understanding that seems correct, but it must be anointed and ordained by God. Even the right thing at the wrong time can have a wrong result. We must be led by the Spirit of God, so that we don't lead others away from Him.
Even the most pure of intentions can still cause more harm than good. It is not always a good practice to think ahead to all of the possible outcomes when we analyze our decisions because the outcome ordained by God is not amoung the "possibles" all the time. When we are led by the Spirit of God, we are called Sons of God.
I fear the message in this chapter because of verse 20. In my heart I never wish harm on anyone who can repent. I wish only that we return to the will of God. Verse 20 says that the anger of the Lord at this magnitude will NOT subside until EVERY word is performed! I hide my face in shame and deep fear of the Lord. Preserve me to live. I will do better, Lord... I promise!
Verse 28 is a word to demonstrate a line drawn between an opinion and a truth. Go on ahead and tell people what you have dreamed, but do not present it as though the Lord said it!
Verse 34 tells us that this thing happens on every level of people. It is NOT only the pastors, priests, or prophets. All of the people who say it is of the Lord, if it is not of the Lord, will suffer as described in verse 20.
Family, please do not be in danger of the wrath of God, as described in this chapter. DO NOT say that what you have understood is of the Lord if it is not specifically ordered that you say so. Even if the Lord gives you a word to help you in a situation, did He specifically tell you to voice it to other people, as though it were for more than just you? Some things Jesus told us to share and some things He told us to NOT share. We must follow Him with our EVERY step. Don't get carried away in your zeal, tripping over the pathway. Be still and know He is God.
One thing more I feel deep in conviction about in this chapter. Verse 2 says the flock is scattered and the pastor did not visit them. Why is this thing the way it is? If even one person is missing for an unusual amount of time from the regular services at church, it is a pastors sworn duty to go visit that person. Jesus left the 99 to go after the 1 missing sheep.
Pastors, hear the Word of the Lord. Seek His face! Visit people before they are lost! If you do not have time to do this, consider passing you mantle to one who will obey the Word of the Lord! If you own 10 successful businesses and your church is NOT successful, or if it isn't as successful as it should be, then what good is the 10 successful businesses? I challenge all of us to rethink the priorities in our lives. God will NOT hold back forever. He is patient and kind, but He is also a Just God.
I share this, carefully and by permission and specifically instructed by the Holy Spirit. I am shaking with tremors, but I am comforted by Matthew 10:28.
