2 Kings 8

     Look Beyond The Storm

The Lord knew (because He knows all things) that Hazael would be the king when Benhadad died. Elisha even knew. Elisha told Hazael to bring a good report to the king, even though it was clear to Elisha that Benhadad would surely die. Elisha also knew that Hazael would be king, and would bring great evil unto the children of Israel. The LORD hath shewed me that thou [shalt be] king over Syria", said Elisha, as he settled his countenance stedfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept. So, why did Elisha tell Hazael to give a false report to Benhadad? Why didn't God put a stop to the treason? Instead, it seems as though this is exactly as God would have it.

God did not do these things, but He did know that they would happen. It's not always clear why God will allow somethings to occur in our lives, as we are in the middle of these things. He knows, yet He has not stopped them from happening. We know only what we face, and that not very clearly. There are circumstances that led to these things, and circumstances that will follow. We can't know every thing that is involved in all situations in our lives, and we can't fully understand why. God will keep us. He will sustain us. He will protect us from all harm. His mercy will never depart from us. He will also keep His word, and He will keep perfect justice.

Even though we don't know all of the details in a situation, we know that God does. His ways are not our ways, nor His thoughts our thoughts. He moves in a way that will bring the most glory to His name. We are blessed to be His children, His beloved children. Be confident knowing that He is in control, and if something looks very bad for you now, be assured that He has a plan in all of it, and you will be alright. Sometimes we are not a party to what is happening around us, yet we seem to suffer as a result. This suffering, as we might perceive it, is only for a time. It will bring an even greater result, as God will keep us and sustain us.

This chapter can serve as a reminder to us that no matter what a situation looks like at present, it will come together in perfect harmony with the best from God. We need to hold to this truth, no matter how dire the circumstances may be at the time. Turn your eyes on Jesus, not the storm that rages all around you. You can rise above this, even as it happens.
