Deuteronomy 33

This blessing that Moses gave unto the People just before his death is an echo of the blessing that Jacob spoke for his 12 sons just before he died. This is found in Genesis 49. It is interesting that Moses would recite this for the People, to remind them of their heritage; to strengthen their sense of identity. This chapter reminds the People how simple a beginning it all was, and how after God's covenant with Abraham, this small family rose to become the worlds greatest nation. Not just any body of people would do. God chose Abraham and to his seed the promise of worldwide greatness because Abraham loved God and was found to be righteous.

Can you imagine what it would be like if God offered these or similar blessings to everyone who is found to be righteous? Well, you don't have to imagine. I believe that righteousness was as rare then as it is now. In fact, I am confident to suggest that God does bless everyone who is righteous with blessings as great as Abraham's, and even more abundantly at times. The thing is, we don't see it because there are no righteous people... no, not one. Job, Abraham, and only a few others were ever found to be righteous, just or any of the attributes that God wants to instill in us.

The law is perfect. There is nothing wrong with the law. The trouble is with the hearts of man. From the beginning of time our eyes have come to rest on the things that are forbidden. This forbidden fruit can be symbolic for whatever vice a person has in their life. It didn't begin as a vice. It began as a completely harmless something that held no significance to the beholder. A person is enticed to partake of a thing and is soon so fond of it that he would nearly forsake all else to attain it. This is a glimpse of sin at it's origin. There are other ways to view this process, and all of them are glimpses of the thing that God is trying to rescue us from. His law was established to offer humanity a way to become clean of such sin.

I can't tell you that I know all things or even how to clearly explain the things that I do know, but I can tell you what I have come to understand as I do Journey Through The Bible, and as God does open my eyes to one thing or another. This process will transform me. I will have a renewed mind and I will be able to draw closer to God. This whole thing don't have to fit into a 2 hour movie, and will certainly occur over the period of my lifetime. I can only share what I come to understand on a daily basis. I encourage anyone and everyone to do this, as it will cause you to see things from countless perspectives.
