Commentary
Deuteronomy 24
In the first part of this chapter it is explained the rules for divorce and marriage. It does not go in depth with the details of these rules, so it is important to know that there are stipulations, or conditions other than what is written here. I have scripture references that are linked to some of the details of this mention about divorce and marriage. There are many more references that can be helpful, but I have only included a few.
The idea for this chapter is to have the People remember their former lives as slaves, and to not treat each other or any stranger as they themselves have been treated in the past, for it is abominable before the Lord. The poor can come and glean from the fields when the harvest has come, for the owner shall not be thorough with his reaping. I can see a parallel in my live today, that seems similar to this chapter in Deuteronomy. When the Holy Spirit reaps the harvest of souls reached for God through the churches and ministries in the world, the job is not complete. There is an overflow. It is spoken of in both the Old and New Testaments. 1Pe 5:2 (episkopeo).
This oversight is not an accident. We must exercise our care for one another, and not expect anything to be done for us entirely. It is important that we put our best efforts forward, and that we trust that God will bring us through any overbearing circumstances. It all works together so that we can live and grow in grace. As we do, we begin to understand God better, through all things. When we get a better understanding of God, we come closer to Him, and our desire to please Him will increase, from our heart, that we might offer our very best for Him.
