Secret Place
By George Neil Armstrong
Gen 49:6
6 O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall.
(KJV)
5475 cowd (sode);
from 3245; a session, i.e. company of persons (in close deliberation); by implication, intimacy, consultation, a secret:
KJV-- assembly, consel, inward, secret (counsel).
In Genesis 49, Jacob called his 12 sons together so that he could tell them of their futures (v.1). Verse 5 records that Jacob was not pleased with Simeon and Levi in that they were “instruments of cruelty”, for in their anger they killed a man and of their won will they “digged down” a wall; plucked up; tore down a wall. Certainly Simeon and Levi were justified in all that they had done and why. In Chapter 34 of Genesis it is written exactly what happened. Justified or not, Jacob was not in approval (v. 30 - 31). The action was not equal to the crime. Jacob scattered them and split them up ch. 49:7). Secret, in this context, means “in their likeness” or “in their assembly”.
Deut 27:15
15 Cursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten image, an abomination unto the LORD, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.
(KJV)
5643 cether (say'-ther);
or (feminine) cithrah (Deut. 32:38), (sith-raw'); from 5641; a cover (in a good or a bad, a literal or a figurative sense):
KJV-- backbiting, covering, covert, X disguise [-th], hiding place, privily, protection, secret (-ly, place).
In
Deuteronomy 27, Moses tells the people to obey Gods command. In verses 15 – 26,
Moses clearly points out some of these commands and expresses the results of
such sins. In verse 15, he even breaks it down to a detail of sneaking behind
each other’s backs to privately sin. In this context,
Deut 29:29
29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
(KJV)
5641 cathar (saw-thar');
a primitive root; to hide (by covering), literally or figuratively:
KJV-- be absent, keep close, conceal, hide (self), (keep) secret, X surely.
In Deuteronomy 29 God clearly identified the punishment for anyone who don’t keep His covenant, and the reward for anyone who does. In verse 29 He holds a thing reserved to Himself a secret thing; That belongs only to Him. Secret, in this context, beans to be withheld from our possession.
Ps 91:1
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
(KJV)
We look back to the meaning of “secret” and understand that the definition that best fits this context is “protection”. Verse one is only the start of a whole list of benefits that we are offered if we trust God for His covering, His protection. Every verse of the 91st Psalm offers unmistakable supernatural intervention to adversities.
Dwell in His protection. To do so, we must be at peace with Him. We surely must trust in Him if we are going to make His protection our permanent home. We will stay unchanging and endure in the shadow of the most Mighty of all that exists; He created all things.
We don’t even need to concentrate of efforts in an attempt to validate and of these truths because today’s scientists are doing just that! Yes, the scientists…the very ones who previously concentrated THEIR efforts to prove us wrong, or prove God wrong! God is Great!
I spent a lot of hours today making absolutely sure that all of this study is accurate to make clear on simple point. We cannot simply read a section of the Bible and assume that we know that is being expressed. It is written a period of 1,600 years by about 400 different people, and translated many times BEFORE it made it’s way to King James’ scholars.
We must diligently see Him if we hope to gain the reward. Psalm 91 isn’t even the extreme; not even verse 7:
Ps 91:7
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
(KJV)
