Meditate
By G. Neil Armstrong
Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks (Matthew 12:34). Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, o Lord, my strength, and my redeemer (Psalms 19:14)
(SONG:) Be careful little ears what you hear – be careful little eyes what you see – for there’s a Father up above - looking right at you with love – so be careful little soul what you perceive. (END SONG)
The mouth is the only thing you can fill with junk going in and not necessarily has junk come back out. In many cases, a person can suffer a bellyache and no more. His consumption of junk is a result in sin unto himself only.
When a person puts junk in his eyes, or his ears, or his hands, or even his nose, that junk can manifest and come out of him to result in harm to him or someone else. All 5 of our human senses influence the whole of our meditations; or thought life.
Our thought life is what produces our emotions. Our emotions produce our behaviors. If a hungry man always smells the mouth-watering savor of fried chicken, that hungry man will eventually crave fried chicken.
If a lonely man is always looking at women on TV, that lonely man will eventually crave women. If a man is always hearing expressions with profane words, eventually that man will express his own thoughts with profane words.
However, if a man eats bitter or unsavory foods, he might not eventually crave bitter or unsavory foods. It’s not what he puts into his mouth that defiles him; it’s what comes out that brings destruction to someone; himself or others (Matthew 15:11).
This man may hear, see, smell, feel, or taste some unclean things. These things will influence his thoughts. His thoughts will influence his emotions. His emotions will influence his behaviors. His behaviors will be unto life or they will be unto death to himself and to other people. This will be determined by what his heart is mostly filled with. This man’s 5 senses have perceived good or they have perceived evil, but this man has chosen what he permits himself to perceive. This man chooses what he ponders or meditates on.
How a person does feel will mandate the way he behaves. This will occur in an obvious, noticeable way, and it will also occur in a way that is not perceivable, and he will not be aware of the way he effects other people. This is determined by the abundance of this mans heart. Is his thought life positive or is it negative? Radiation = Attraction. This person will attract the type of people that he is, by his emotion, mannerism and behavior. These type of people will have an influence on this mans emotions and thoughts. This will finally result in this mans behaviors. Again, his behaviors and emotions will attract like people.
His behaviors are governed by the abundance of his heart. We can choose to have God instead of Satan. We can choose life over death. We can renew our minds (Romans 12:2) by meditation on good, life-giving things. Phillipians 4:8 lists good, life-producing things on which we can think. The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, & temperance…(Galatians 5:22-23).
